Men’s ice hockey team ties first game of season

The Morrisville State Men’s Ice hockey team played their season opener on Friday Oct. 26, against Manhattanville. The Mustangs started their season by ending the game in a 2-2 tie.

The Mustangs faced hardship on the offensive end of the ice during the first period. The Mustangs took five shots during the first quarter a Manhattanville got up 18 shots in the quarter. Sophomore goalie Jared Young saved all 18 shots in the first quarter to keep the game 0-0.

In the second quarter Morrisville nearly tripled the amount of shots taken in the second quarter of play compared to the first. Even though The Mustangs were able to take more shots, they were still outscored 2-0 by the Valiants in the quarter.(How many shots?)

Morrisville took charge of the third quarter early on by scoring within the first minute of play.Senior forward John Lauer scored the first goal for The Mustangs to shrink the Vailiant’s lead to just one. Lauer’s goal was assisted by |Be sure to put grade and position for these players|Nick Devito and Bradley Hefner.

In that same period, Morrisville managed to outshoot their opponent by 11 shots. Six of the 15 shots were power play attempts on the Mustangs behalf. Later on in the quarter CJ Stubbs  found the net to tie the game at 2-2. Hefner contributed to the play by adding his second assist of the contest along with teammate Stevie Ray Adams picking up the other assist.

The game remained tied at two a piece and headed into overtime. This was a thriller for both the fans as they came out to watch the season opener of both teams. Approximately 391 people were in attendance for the game on Friday. The game lasted about two and a half hours.

Morrisville’s penalty total was 14 minutes on seven infractions as Manhatanville’s total was 41 minutes on 15 infractions.

Morrisville will search for a win in their next matchup at Plattsburgh on Friday Nov 3 at 7 p.m.
